U18 Nottingham B Home

Our first home game on 28th September against Nottingham B was an eventful one, firstly after only five minutes, a check from behind saw Josh Birtwistle see the red mist, and after a ‘handbags’ scuffle he left the ice for the remainder of the game. This was followed by where James Royds thought he would contest his mighty strength and check the boards, he won, the hinge didn’t and we had a few cautious moments whilst the gate was repaired. A further delay where the Nottingham net minder was unsure she could continue after a blade hit her cage. She seemed to recover after her parent comforted her On Ice! Followed by a rather brutal battle where we lost Liam Kirton for the next two games, a real shame after he had scored two great goals earlier on in the game.  It was a very long three hour game and eventful game, I bet the referees thought it would never end, but it was well in Bradford’s favour giving us a comfortable 12 – 0 win. Well done Team. Goals went to Adam B (3); James R (3); Liam (2); Ryan K (2) Connor P (1) Lewis B (1). MVP went to James Royds.

It’s great to see an U18 team once again at Bradford, it is quite a small team, but backed by some talented U16s giving us the strength needed. Good Luck guys and gals – woof woof !!!!

Bradford Bulldogs players rewarded with national call

The Bradford Bulldogs junior ice hockey team have been celebrating after a record number of their players were selected to play for national teams.

Nine have made the grade for England age group and the Great Britain under-16 ladies squad.

The success is particularly impressive as the Bradford club have only about 50 registered players, giving testament to the standard of coaching and the ability of the youngsters involved.

Those selected by England and GB are proud to have been rewarded for their hard work and dedication.

The Bulldogs players chosen are as follows –

England under-13: Kieran Brown and Jacob Lutwyche (both aged 12); under-14: Jack Haywood (13) and Kieran Brown (12), who has also been selected to play up a year, which is very rare; under-15: Ryan Kemp, Max Broadhurst, Lewis Baldwin and Adam Barnes (all 14); GB ladies under-16: Hannah Gibson and Abigail Culshaw.

U18 Blackburn Away

The newly formed U18 Bulldogs had their first game of the season away at Blackburn on the 8th September, a little ironic under the circumstances. The team was short benched with only 12 players, as many of the U16’s were unavailable training with the England Team. The team had never previously played together in a game as a team, and for nearly half of the team (the ex Blackburn players) it was against ex teammates. But even under these conditions they all gave Blackburn a really tough game, outshooting them 34 shots to 22, goals came in the first on the power play from Abbie Culshaw and in the third period from Liam Kirton, but sadly we lost 3 2.  I’m sure as the team gels, and we gather a few more players they will work and get the win. MVP went to Niks Veiss.
