BULLDOGS Under-19s came off second-best in an 8-3 defeat at Leeds Junior Knights on Sunday - but played their part in a competitive derby encounter.
The Bulldogs got off to the best possible start when Sam Bain put them ahead at 6.22 with the hosts levelling through Harry Harling before the end of the period.
The Knights were able to pull clear in a feisty second period with goals from Finley Amos, Adam Vanek, Ferris Groot and Harling, while Thomas Lee kept the Bulldogs in the game with a 33rd-minute response.
Luke Swift made it 6-2 early in the third but the Bulldogs responded quickly to reduce the deficit when Nadia Molenda scored her first goal for the club 42.19.
With 10 minutes left, the game was still up for grabs before Swift added his second at 53.28 on the power play, a further goal on the man advantage in the dying seconds - signalling a second for Amos - securing a hard-fought 8-3 win for the hosts.
Shout out to goalie Jack Clarke who made his Under-19s debut when replacing Lewis Curry early in the third period and also to Jamie Easter who picked up the Dogs’ Spirit of the Game award.
