BRADFORD BULLDOGS Under-19s got their 2026-27 campaign underway at the weekend, playing host to Telford Tigers Juniors at The Pound.
Telford had iced in the Under-19s National Division the previous year and were always likely to prove a tough opponent and so it proved.
But the Bulldogs put up a good fight and were well in the game when trailing just 4-1 at the end of the first with Meeyah Forbes lighting the lamp with 44 seconds on the clock, equalising Telford’s opener from Muhammad-Yusuf Kara after just 17 seconds.
The second period saw Telford put some distance between themselves and the Bulldogs with further goals from Corey Stanton, Matthew Peckett and Tyrese Pennant and although the hosts were heavily outshot all night they edged the third period with two goals from Oliver Andrukianiec, who picked up the team’s Spirit of the Game award in an 8-3 loss.
Down in Ice Sheffield, the Under-16s looked to build on an impressive performance at Whitley Bay the week before when losing 2-1 as they visited Sheffield IHA.
Again the first period was close, the Bulldogs creating more chances and making sure they were still in the game when an 11th-minute strike from Louis Brook left them trailing 3-1 at the break.
Sheffield took control in the second with four unanswered goals, Kyle Bower completing his hat-trick on the night with two goals to add to his third-minute opener.
Bradford got on the board for a second time through a shorthanded strike from Thomas Lee just 56 seconds into the third but any hopes of a comeback disappeared when the hosts hit two more shortly after, their 10-2 win completed through Bailey Spivey’s strike at 41.03.
Defenceman Seb Chetter picked up the Bulldogs' Spirit of the Game award.
On Saturday, the Under-12s and Under-14s both had road trips.
The Under-12s made the short trip down the M62 to take on Leeds Junior Knights Blue and left themselves a mountain to climb after going in at the first break 5-0 down.
But they proved a competitive force thereafter and fired three second period goals through Oliver Toney (2) and Robson Bagott, matching the output from the hosts to trail 8-3 after two periods.
The third period was another even affair with Bagott doubling his tally as the Bulldogs went down 9-4.
Oliver Toney picked up the Spirit of the Game award while Elsie Fowler donned the Hardest Worker Helmet.
The Under-14s headed to Sheffield and although they found chances hard to come by they were in the game after first thanks to Alfie McAlinden’s 14th-minute power play strike which saw them trailing 4-1.
A goalless second period followed before Sheffield added three third period strikes to run out 7-1 winners.
Alex Szwajcar picked up the Bulldogs’ Spirit of the Game award, while Jack Curnock was awarded the Hardest Worker Helmet.
